At Twisted Jiu-Jitsu, every class is designed to meet you where you are — whether you’ve never stepped on a mat or you’ve been training for years. We believe Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone, and our programs reflect that. Below you’ll find a breakdown of each class we offer and what to expect when you walk through the door.
Fundamentals
Fundamentals is the foundation of everything we do at Twisted JJ. This class is the ideal starting point for brand-new students and an essential reinforcement tool for experienced practitioners — because the basics never stop being important.
Each session focuses on core positions, movements, and concepts that form the backbone of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. You’ll learn how to move efficiently on the mat, understand positional hierarchy — why some positions are dominant and others are not — and develop an early feel for the points system used in competition. We cover escapes, sweeps, guard retention, passes, and fundamental submissions in a structured, step-by-step format.
A major emphasis in Fundamentals is learning how to be a safe training partner. Tapping early and often, communicating with your partner, and respecting boundaries on the mat are non-negotiables here. We use constraint-based training — structured drilling with defined rules that encourage problem-solving — and positional drills that reinforce technique through repetition and live application in a controlled setting.
✓ Positional hierarchy & the points system
✓ Escapes, sweeps, guard passes & fundamental submissions
✓ Constraint-based training & positional drilling
✓ How to be a safe, respectful training partner
✓ Light positional sparring as you progress
No experience required. Come as you are.
All Levels
All Levels class is exactly what it sounds like — a dynamic, open environment where white belts and black belts train side by side. The curriculum is designed to challenge every practitioner in the room, regardless of where they are on their journey.
Sessions cover a wide spectrum of Jiu-Jitsu, from hand fighting and grip battles at the start of an exchange all the way through advanced positional strategies, submissions, and live sparring. Expect detailed instruction on positional sparring — starting from specific positions to sharpen your offense and defense — as well as takedown entries and setups for transitioning the fight to the ground.
Class typically closes with rounds of live sparring, giving you the opportunity to test what you’ve learned against a resisting partner. Coaches provide feedback, corrections, and positional coaching throughout.
✓ Takedown entries & setups
✓ Positional sparring from guard, mount, back & more
✓ Advanced submissions, sweeps & strategic sequences
✓ Live sparring rounds with coaching
✓ Applicable to both Gi and No-Gi
White belts are encouraged to attend. The variety of training partners accelerates your growth faster than any single-level class can.
Wrestling
The best way to control where a fight goes is to be the one who takes it there. Our Wrestling class is dedicated to developing a complete stand-up game — giving you the tools to dictate the terms of engagement from the very first grip.
We cover the full spectrum of takedown offense and defense, drawing from wrestling, Judo, and Sambo traditions to build a well-rounded toolkit. From foundational single and double leg attacks to more technical entries like foot sweeps, hip throws, and trips, you’ll develop both the physical mechanics and the tactical timing to execute in live situations.
Equally important is what happens when you’re the one being taken down. Sprawl mechanics, underhook battles, and takedown defense are core components of this class — because surviving the scramble is just as valuable as finishing the shot.
✓ Foot sweeps, hip throws & trips (Judo-influenced)
✓ Takedown defense: sprawls, underhooks & whizzer
✓ Clinch work & dirty boxing setups
✓ Live takedown drilling & positional scrambles
✓ Applicable to No-Gi competition & self-defense
A strong wrestling base makes every other part of your Jiu-Jitsu harder to deal with.
Open Mat
Open Mat is unstructured training time — and some of the best learning happens here. No formal instruction, no curriculum. Just rolling.
We run 5-minute rounds with short rest intervals, giving you the chance to work with as many training partners as possible in a single session. You choose who you roll with, what you work on, and how hard you go. Open Mat is the place to test your technique under pressure, explore positions you want to develop, and build the kind of time on the mat that accelerates growth faster than anything else.
Visiting practitioners from other gyms and affiliations are always welcome. This is a community mat — come roll with us.
✓ 5-minute rounds with short rest
✓ Choose your partners & your pace
✓ Open to Twisted JJ members & visitors
✓ All affiliations welcome
✓ Drop-in fee: $15 (applies toward first month membership)
Every Friday, 7:00–8:00 PM. Members train free.
Foundation Program
The Foundation Program is built from the ground up for people stepping onto the mat for the very first time. Over eight structured classes, you’ll develop the skills, habits, and understanding needed to train safely and with confidence — without the confusion that often comes with jumping straight into a regular class.
Each session is focused, approachable, and designed around real learning — not just repetition. You’ll walk away with a clear picture of how Jiu-Jitsu works at Twisted JJ, how to move, how to think, and how to show up as a good training partner from day one. An optional makeup class is available each week, so missing a session never means falling behind.
✓ Core positions, movements & foundational submissions
✓ Positional hierarchy & how scoring works
✓ Safety, etiquette & how to be a great training partner

Women’s Open Mat
Women’s Jiu-Jitsu is growing — and we’re here for it. Our monthly Women’s Open Mat is a dedicated space for women and non-binary practitioners to train, connect, and grow together in an environment built on mutual respect and encouragement.
The format mirrors our regular Open Mat — 5-minute free rolls, your choice of partners and pace, Gi and No-Gi both welcome. Advanced practitioners will find worthy competition and community.
We are proud to open our doors to women and non-binary grapplers from all gyms and affiliations — no membership required to attend. This is a community initiative, not a members-only event. We believe that growing the women’s game benefits every gym, every team, and the sport as a whole.
